The Rajasthan Housing Board (RHB) has reached out to the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), urging it to revise its proposal to develop a 100-feet-wide road that would connect sectors 63 and 64 of Pratap Nagar with Tonk Road. The move follows growing concerns among residents whose homes have been earmarked for demolition as part of the project.


Residents of around 60 houses recently staged a protest after JDA identified their structures for demolition to make way for the proposed roadway. These properties were originally under RHB's ownership before being sold to individual homeowners. In response to the situation, the housing commissioner sent an official communication to JDA, requesting a review of the decision. A representative for RHB voiced hope that the civic organization would take the delicate nature of the matter into account.

Affected residents maintain that their 2018 Master Plan did not include any provision for the proposed thoroughfare. They argue that the JDA has since made modifications to the plan, altering the designated path of the road. Kishan Lal Bairwa, a resident, stated that an alternative route for the road had been planned near their neighborhood, but JDA has now opted to construct it by demolishing their homes, properties legally acquired from another state government agency.

In the past few weeks, JDA marked these buildings with red signs, signifying their impending demolition. The development has fueled discontent among homeowners, who continue to contest the project's legitimacy and its impact on their residences.

Pratap Nagar, initially developed as a planned residential area by the RHB, has undergone several infrastructure modifications over the years, often leading to conflicts between residents and civic authorities. JDA has previously carried out demolition operations in various parts of the city, including Mansarovar and Jagatpura, where property owners contested sudden alterations to the Master Plan. Many residents have alleged procedural lapses and a lack of transparency in the decision-making process regarding urban redevelopment.

While infrastructure expansion is crucial for city planning, the concerns of residents who legally purchased their properties must be addressed with fairness and transparency. The alleged modifications to the Master Plan raise questions about procedural clarity, and the JDA's response will likely set a precedent for future redevelopment initiatives. If civic authorities fail to accommodate the grievances of affected residents, the conflict could escalate, prompting broader debates on property rights and urban governance in Rajasthan.
