Visakhapatnam district authorities are once again preparing for a land pooling initiative aimed at providing housing for the poor. A preliminary exercise has already been completed, with over 770 acres of land identified from various villages. In order to gather public opinion, Grama Sabhas was conducted at the Panchayat Offices from June 12 to June 18. The publich has until July 4 to submit any objections to the Land Protection Cell Deputy Tahsildars at Tahesildars' offices.

The recently issued notification for land pooling reveals that a total of 771 acres will be acquired, with specific allocations in different mandals. Anandapuram will contribute 401 acres, Visakha rural will provide 118 acres, Padmanabham will contribute 116 acres, and Bheemili will offer 135 acres. Additionally, approximately 500 acres will be allocated to the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (VMRDA).

This initiative harkens back to three years ago when the government acquired approximately 6,000 acres through land pooling due to the unavailability of government land for housing the poor. The current notification, issued by the Deputy Special Collector of Land Acquisition, highlights that a significant portion of the land will be pooled in Anandapuram mandal. This includes 72 acres from Mukundapuram, 239 acres from Sontyam, 66 acres from Kusuluvada, and land from other villages, as well as government lands in Mukundapuram and Sontyam.

In addition to Anandapuram mandal, the authorities will also acquire land in Narasapuram and Tunivalasa in Padmanabham mandal, and RY Agraharam, Nerellavalasa, Tallavalasa, Chippada, and Dakamarri villages in Bheemili mandal. Furthermore, lands in Paradesi Palem and the Sixth Ward (Kommadi) within the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation limits in Visakha Rural mandal will be pooled for the "Housing for Poor" project.

The land pooling initiative aims to address the pressing need for affordable housing for the economically disadvantaged. By involving the public in the decision-making process, the authorities hope to ensure transparency and gather valuable feedback. As the Grama Sabhas commence, the district anticipates constructive discussions that will contribute to the successful implementation of the "Housing for Poor" project in Visakhapatnam.
