With collective efforts from government and industry stakeholders, Madhya Pradesh aims for balanced, sustainable urban growth by 2047.

The Union government has reaffirmed its intention to support Madhya Pradesh's urban development agenda, as stressed by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Shri Manohar Lal Khattar at the Madhya Pradesh Global Investors Summit (MP GIS) earlier this week. Speaking at a session called 'Unlocking Land Values and Cities,' Khattar presented the state's vision of growth in 2047 and emphasized major projects like the widening of metro rail networks in Bhopal and Indore, e-mobility promotion, and affordable housing.

Khattar emphasized investor-friendly policies rolled out in Madhya Pradesh and the ongoing initiatives in slum redevelopment. Emphasizing the need for low-cost housing, he assured that the central government would take seriously industry suggestions for the growth of the real estate sector. He also mentioned the single-window clearance mechanism and benefits of the state's electric vehicle (EV) policy to investors. Further, he stated that the expansion of the Bhopal Metro would be taken up depending on people's demand and reiterated the government's intention to support infrastructure growth.

He pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a 'Vikasit Bharat' by 2047 puts cities at the center of national development. Madhya Pradesh has come up with three new urban planning policies, which Khattar considered essential for promoting balanced growth, particularly in high-density cities. He emphasized the importance of strategic metropolitan planning and realistic population projections to make the dividends of infrastructure projects equitably reach people.

Emphasizing green initiatives, Khattar spoke about the push for electric vehicles by the central government as a measure towards environmental sustainability in city transport. He also stressed the need for curbing carbon emissions and quoted the carbon credit incentive policy aimed at encouraging green urban projects.

MP Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya addressed boosting urban bodies' revenue and described the Integrated Township Policy's contribution to holistic city development. He emphasized the concessions provided to developers in the state's new housing policies, such as the redevelopment of land at Indore's Hukumchand Mill. Vijayvargiya also unveiled proposals to boost urban greenery and offered incentives to builders including green spaces in their developments.

The meetings were further extended to the MP Integrated Policy, Re-densification, and Madhya Pradesh Housing Redevelopment Policy. Sanjay Shukla, Principal Secretary of MPUAD, announced fortnightly meetings with developers and builders for the simplification of industry issues. He also listed the reforms in the single-window clearance process to improve transparency in project approvals.

The event was attended by major stakeholders such as MP Cooperative Minister Vishwas Sarang and Bhopal Mayor Malti Rai, among others, reiterating the collective commitment towards the state's urban revolution.
