Synopsis

The Noida District Administration has fined Bhutani Infra's Bhutani City Centre project in Sector 150 INR 5 lakh for unauthorized basement excavation without approval from the mining department. Officials seized an excavator after an anonymous complaint led to an inspection. Under Uttar Pradesh regulations, excavation beyond 2 meters requires prior clearance, which the builder failed to obtain. Authorities have ramped up enforcement, seizing 43 vehicles and four excavators in Greater Noida this year, imposing INR 23 lakh in fines. Amid recent building collapses linked to illegal excavation, this crackdown aims to ensure construction safety and regulatory compliance.

In recent real estate news, the Noida District Administration has imposed a INR 5 lac fine on Bhutani Infra's Bhutani City Centre project in Sector 150. The fine has been imposed for conducting an excavation for the basement without obtaining requisite permission from the mining department. Officials have also confiscated an excavator from the project site.

Officials were tipped off about the activity through an anonymous complaint about unauthorised excavation in Sector 150. To verify the complaint, officials visited the site where an earthmover was being used for the basement excavation. However, representatives of the builder were unable to produce any documents granting permission for the activity.

According to Uttar Pradesh government regulations, any development project carrying out excavation beyond 2 metres must secure prior approval from the mining department. In this case, the excavation significantly exceeded the permissible limit, prompting immediate action.

The department has intensified its efforts against illegal mining activities in the district. Since the beginning of the year, authorities have seized 43 vehicles and four excavators from various locations in Greater Noida, including Jarcha, Ecotech, Rabupura, and Dadri, imposing fines totalling INR 23 lakh.

Recently, a section of a two-storey building in Bengaluru's Central Business District collapsed due to illegal excavation work at a neighboring construction site. On December 21, 2024, a four-storey building collapsed in Mohali, Punjab, resulting in at least two fatalities. The collapse is believed to have been caused by unauthorized and illegal excavation work on an adjacent plot owned by the building's owner.

The recent incidents of building collapses highlight the potential risks associated with unregulated construction. As enforcement intensifies, the crackdown on illegal excavation in Greater Noida serves as a preventive measure to avert similar structural hazards and uphold regulatory standards in the real estate sector.
