The Haryana government has committed to providing housing to underprivileged families under the Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana. Plots measuring 100 square yards will be allotted in phases within developed colonies featuring essential amenities. An allocation of INR 100 crore has been earmarked for the initiative. The schemes target families with annual incomes below INR 1.80 lakh who lack property or housing. The government is facilitating financing options to ensure accessibility, with provisional allotment letters already issued to some beneficiaries.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini recently announced the state government's commitment to providing housing facilities to all underprivileged families through the Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana.
The Chief Minister, while presiding over a review meeting of the Housing for All department held at the secretariat, mentioned that the allotment of 100-square-yard plots to eligible individuals would be conducted in phases. These plots will be situated in developed colonies equipped with essential amenities comparable to urban areas. To support this initiative, the government has allocated INR 100 crore.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that eligible families are provided with the option to finance the cost of flats or plots through banks. This provision aims to ensure that no eligible family is excluded from the scheme due to an inability to make a lump sum payment.
The schemes are designed to benefit families across the state with an annual income of less than INR 1.80 lakh who do not own a house, land to build a house, or a flat. Under the Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas Yojana, more than 5 lakh applicants have been identified for 100-square-yard plots, which will be distributed in phases. Similarly, 50-square-yard plots will be allocated in mahagram panchayats under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana.
In urban areas, the Mukhyamantri Shahri Awas Yojana has attracted over 2.89 lakh applications from families meeting the criteria. Among these, 1.51 lakh individuals have applied for plots, while 1.38 lakh have applied for flats. Last year, provisional allotment letters were issued to 15,256 applicants, marking progress in implementing the scheme.
The Haryana government's initiative to provide housing to underprivileged families underscores its commitment to improving living standards and ensuring social equity. By introducing phased allotments and financing options, the government aims to make housing accessible to eligible families, irrespective of financial constraints.
