The Goa government is in the process of planning a metro train system and has already prepared a proposal, with discussions underway with Indian Railways and central authorities. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant shared this update at the Young Leaders Conclave. Additionally, Sawant highlighted the state's growing IT sector, with 50 to 60 companies operating in Goa, and the idea of creating an IT hub. Other plans include the reconstruction of Panaji and Mapusa bus stands, and new infrastructure for architecture, music, and pharmacy colleges near Goa University. Further, nursing students will be encouraged to pursue higher studies under the CM apprenticeship scheme.
The Goa government has already developed a proposal for introducing a metro train system within the state, with discussions ongoing with Indian Railways and other central authorities. This was shared by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant earlier this week during his speech at the Young Leaders Conclave in Dona Paula. Sawant confirmed that the metro project is currently in the planning phase, and although the discussions are still underway, the metro is expected to be a part of Goa's future infrastructure. In addition, the Chief Minister mentioned that the state is home to 50 to 60 IT companies already, and there are ongoing efforts to create a dedicated IT hub. With the growth of the IT sector, the state is looking forward to fostering even more technological development.
Sawant also provided an update on the much-needed reconstruction of the Panaji and Mapusa bus stands, saying that the project is in the planning stage, though it has faced some delays. However, he assured that the work would be taken up soon.
Another key announcement involved the creation of a new educational complex on a 2 lakh square meter plot near Goa University. This complex will house the state's architecture, music, and pharmacy colleges, offering modern facilities for students. Sawant specifically addressed the deteriorating condition of the pharmacy college building, stressing the need for new infrastructure for all three institutions. He confirmed that despite ongoing litigation, the foundation stone for the new pharmacy college will be laid within six months.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister mentioned the ongoing CM apprenticeship scheme for nursing students. This initiative will ensure that nursing students are supported with a small stipend while pursuing their post-graduate education, aiming to encourage them to specialize in superspecialty nursing, an area currently in high demand.
In his address, Virendra Singh Solanki, the national general secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), underscored the importance of student union elections in motivating students and fostering leadership qualities. Bhushan Savaikar, the director of higher education, was also present at the event.
The Goa government is actively advancing its plans to enhance state infrastructure, including the introduction of a metro system and a dedicated IT hub, which could significantly boost both the economy and the education sector. Additionally, the government is addressing the urgent need for improved educational facilities, particularly for architecture, music, and pharmacy colleges, alongside its commitment to supporting nursing students. These initiatives reflect a forward-thinking approach to Goa's development and aim to benefit both current and future generations.
