Synopsis

The Patna Municipal Commissioner has instructed newly registered architects, engineers, structural engineers, and town planners to expedite the approval process for building maps. Emphasizing efficiency, smaller buildings are expected to receive approval within seven days, while larger structures should be processed within 15 days. The Patna Municipal Corporation organized a training program for these professionals, focusing on the utilization of a software tool to streamline the approval process. The aim is to promote sustainable urban development by enforcing stricter regulations and ensuring standardized procedures in construction projects while considering long-term impacts on the city's infrastructure.

In an effort to streamline the approval process for building maps, Patna Municipal Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar recently instructed newly registered architects, engineers, structural engineers, and town planners to expedite their work. During an online training session held on Tuesday, Parashar emphasized the need for efficiency, stating that smaller buildings should receive approval within seven days, while larger structures should be processed within 15 days.

The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) organized a virtual training program for the newly registered professionals, focusing on the utilization of a software tool designed to upload building designs and identify potential errors that should be avoided. A total of 424 participants were trained in this software, equipping them with the necessary skills to facilitate the approval process effectively.

An official from PMC highlighted the background behind the temporary halt in building map approvals, which lasted nearly a year following amendments made to the building bylaws in February of the previous year. Previously, architects and engineers were enlisted with individual urban local bodies for empanelment.

However, the amendment mandated that all professionals involved in designing and approval be empanelled with the Urban Development and Housing Department (UDHD). Although some leeway was given to those who were already registered with the urban local bodies to complete their pending work, it did not resolve the backlog of pending approvals.

As of March of the current year, a total of 794 architects, engineers, and town planners have successfully registered with the UDHD, and their details have been forwarded to all urban local bodies (ULBs).

The call for expediting the approval process and emphasizing proper town planning highlights the Patna Municipal Corporation's commitment to promoting sustainable urban development. By providing training and enforcing stricter regulations, the municipal authorities aim to ensure that construction projects adhere to standardized procedures while also considering the long-term impact on the city's infrastructure and overall liveability.
