The Haryana government has initiated a door-to-door verification of property IDs in South Haryana to rectify discrepancies in ownership records and streamline tax collection. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini "Samadhan Sivir"; program highlighted property-related complaints, prompting the verification drive in Gurgaon, Rewari, and Mahendragarh, set to be completed in two months. Data shows that 42% of properties lack contact details, and 34.1% miss owner names, leading to inefficiencies. Officials aim to ensure accurate records, reduce corruption, and expedite pending revenue cases, improving transparency and public trust in the property taxation system.
The Haryana government is set to initiate a door-to-door verification of property IDs in South Haryana. This effort aims to resolve issues related to property ownership documents, which have become a significant concern for residents. The move was highlighted during the recent assembly elections, where property rights were a key topic. Local administrations and civic bodies have been instructed to address property-related issues before streamlining the collection of property taxes. This initiative comes after Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini launched a "Samadhan Sivir" program at the district level to tackle public complaints, many of which were related to property IDs and the Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) system.
Division Commissioner R.C. Bidhwan emphasized the need to complete the verification process in districts such as Gurgaon, Rewari, and Mahendragarh within two months. He urged municipal units to actively participate in the door-to-door campaign to ensure that property IDs are accurate. He stressed the need to expedite the property ID verification process, noting that effective property tax collection depends on thorough verification.
The introduction of online property IDs in 2023 has made these identifiers mandatory for executing sale and purchase deeds. Each property ID includes crucial details such as the owner's name, contact information, and property dimensions, facilitating online tax payments and record-keeping. However, Haryana's property tax database is currently incomplete, with many records lacking essential owner information.
According to government data, approximately 48 lakh properties are registered in Haryana, yet a significant portion of these records is flawed. For instance, 42% of registered properties lack owner contact details, while 34.1% do not list the owner's name. Gurgaon has the highest rate of inconsistencies, with 39.4% of its 9.15 lakh properties missing contact numbers. Additionally, 2.53 lakh properties in the district lack the names of their owners. Faridabad also faces similar issues, with 3.4 lakh properties missing contact numbers and 2.76 lakh without owner names.
Residents have expressed frustration over the management of property IDs, alleging that the system has been manipulated and mismanaged. Many believe that these issues are designed to compel them to pay bribes for resolution. In response to these challenges, the division commissioner has called for a swift resolution of pending revenue cases in local courts, including those overseen by Tehsildar and SDM officials. He emphasized that revenue cases should be resolved promptly, as the quick resolution of land-related disputes would benefit the public and allow them to continue their agricultural activities without hindrance.
This door-to-door verification initiative is expected to enhance transparency in property ownership and improve the overall efficiency of property tax collection in Haryana. As the government moves forward with this campaign, residents hope for a system that is fair and accessible, reducing the need for corrupt practices and ensuring that property rights are upheld.
