The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has implemented the state government's revised guidelines for the demolition of unauthorised and illegal structures. The regulations require property owners to receive a show-cause notice at least 15 days in advance, delivered via registered post, or as per the timeframe specified by local municipal laws. To enhance transparency, demolition notices must also be sent via email to the district magistrate's office for automatic acknowledgment. A designated nodal officer will oversee communication between municipal authorities and ensure proper documentation. These measures have been introduced to prevent unauthorised demolitions and streamline the process.
The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has adopted the state government's latest regulations concerning the demolition of unauthorised and illegal constructions. As per these rules, property owners must be issued a show-cause notice at least 15 days before any action is taken, either through registered post or within the period stipulated by local municipal laws, whichever is longer. Additionally, the notice must be visibly displayed on the structure in question.
To ensure greater transparency, officials are now required to send demolition notices via email to the district magistrate's office, which will generate an automatic acknowledgment. These steps have been introduced to prevent unauthorised demolitions and maintain thorough documentation, according to officials.
An official stated that the district magistrate would appoint a nodal officer and assign an official email address for communication with all municipal and other authorities responsible for building regulations and demolitions.
The notice will include details about the unauthorised construction, specific violations, and the reasons for demolition. Furthermore, it must specify the date of the personal hearing and identify the designated authority before whom the hearing will be conducted.
In the past, the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation faced criticism for a large-scale demolition drive in Shanti Nagar, which took place amidst strong local resistance. The operation, which occurred in late 2020, required the presence of both the PAC and local police, who struggled to evict residents from their homes. The newly introduced guidelines aim to provide clarity and structure for carrying out similar operations in the future, officials noted.
The implementation of these revised regulations is expected to make the demolition process more systematic and transparent in Ghaziabad. By mandating prior notices and official documentation, the guidelines aim to prevent arbitrary demolitions and protect property owners' rights.
