In an ongoing effort to enhance Navi Mumbai's cleanliness, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailash Shinde recently led an extensive cleanliness campaign across the city's eight divisions. Special attention was given to minimising air pollution by clearing accumulated dust from roads, footpaths, and dividers. Dr. Shinde personally conducted an unannounced inspection of the Airoli division, travelling by bicycle to assess the ground reality more effectively. During his visit, he issued directives to improve cleanliness, remove encroachments, and enhance green spaces. Senior officials from various departments accompanied him, ensuring swift implementation of his instructions.
As part of the continued efforts to improve cleanliness in Navi Mumbai, various initiatives and campaigns are being implemented under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailash Shinde. A comprehensive cleanliness drive was recently carried out across the city's eight divisions, targeting highways, main roads, busy areas, and neglected zones. A key focus of this campaign was reducing dust levels by clearing accumulated soil from roadsides, footpaths, and dividers.
To ensure the effectiveness of these efforts, Dr. Shinde has been personally conducting field inspections. On this occasion, he visited the main roads in the Airoli division, particularly the MIDC area, to examine cleanliness, debris management, and overall maintenance. Notably, he carried out this inspection on a bicycle to gain a more accurate perspective of the ground conditions.
Dr. Shinde emphasised that travelling in a four-wheeler often makes it difficult to observe actual on-ground conditions due to speed. To counter this, he regularly conducts early morning inspections using a bicycle. During his recent visit, he arrived unannounced, accompanied by relevant officers, to get an unbiased assessment of the area's state.
Starting from the T-junction in Sector 5, he stopped at multiple locations along the route, which covered areas from the underpass to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Nagar, Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj School, and MIDC Road leading to Airoli. During the inspection, he issued specific instructions concerning the cleanliness of school premises and their facilities.
Dr. Shinde directed that footpaths should be kept free of encroachments to ensure pedestrian accessibility. He also mandated that construction sites erect high fences and ensure that debris is transported to the municipal corporation's solid waste management site by the respective contractors. Additionally, he instructed that small plants growing in cracks along walls and footpaths be removed immediately. He also stressed the importance of beautifying areas where sculptures are installed and directed that scattered debris be cleared with increased vigilance from the anti-debris teams.
Further, he ordered the plantation of bamboo and other native trees at both ends of the MIDC Road under the flyover leading to Katai. Expressing dissatisfaction with the poor upkeep of greenery along the road divider in the MIDC area, he instructed officials to improve its condition immediately. He also called for urgent repairs and beautification of the public toilet near Ashwin Kori.
Dr. Shinde underscored that main roads are a reflection of the city's overall cleanliness. He instructed that potholes be promptly repaired, air quality be improved by removing dust, and beautification efforts be prioritised. Emphasising the need for a city-wide approach, he directed officials to extend the measures beyond the inspected areas to all parts of Navi Mumbai.
Accompanying him on this inspection were City Engineer Mr. Shirish Aardwad, Deputy Commissioner of Zone 2 Dr. Kailash Gaikwad, Deputy Commissioner of the Solid Waste Management Department Mr. Santosh Warule, Deputy Commissioner of Zone 2 (Airoli Division) Mr. Ankush Jadhav, Executive Engineer Mr. Madan Waghchoude, Mr. Manohar Sonawane, Mr. Praveen Gade, and other officials.
The emphasis on encroachment removal, debris management, and greenery enhancement is expected to significantly improve both aesthetics and environmental health. With clear directives for sustained city-wide improvements, municipal officials have been instructed to intensify efforts beyond the inspected areas. This initiative underscores the importance of active governance in maintaining urban cleanliness and ensuring a better quality of life for residents.
