Synopsis

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has committed to investing INR 60,000 crore in expanding its data centres in Telangana, particularly in Hyderabad. The investment, announced during the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2025 in Davos, Switzerland, aims to enhance AWS's cloud infrastructure and support the growth of AI services in India. The company has already invested USD 1 billion to develop three operational sites in the state and has requested additional land to continue its expansion. AWS's ongoing investment further strengthens Hyderabad's position as a central hub for data centres in India.

Tech giant Amazon Web Services (AWS) has agreed to invest INR 60,000 crore in expanding its data centre operations in Telangana. As per official communication, the company revealed plans to significantly grow its data centres in Hyderabad, with the new investment aimed at strengthening AWS's cloud services in India, including its future AI initiatives. This agreement was formalised during a meeting between senior AWS executives, including Michael Punke, Vice President of AWS Global Public Policy, and Telangana officials, including Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, at the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual conference in Davos, Switzerland.

This investment is expected to further cement Hyderabad's position as India's dominant data centre hub. AWS had previously outlined plans to invest USD 4.4 billion by 2030 to enhance its cloud infrastructure in the state, with an initial investment of around USD 1 billion already made to develop three operational sites. To support this next phase of expansion, AWS has requested additional land from the state government, which has agreed to facilitate this request.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy remarked that the efforts of the last one year have truly borne fruit. He stated that 'This is TelanganaRising vision at work.' Minister Sridhar Babu stated that with this deal, Hyderabad is set to be recognised as the Data Centres hub of India and a leader in this space.

AWS has been a key partner in Telangana's digital growth, and this continued investment will only strengthen the state's position as a leading technology hub in India. The Hyderabad AWS Region will play a pivotal role in driving the growth of cloud services, artificial intelligence, and advanced computing capabilities in India.
