The Tripura government is taking steps to manage urban growth by establishing three satellite towns near Agartala, Dharmanagar, and Udaipur. The government has allocated INR 27,000 crore in this year's budget for infrastructure and public amenities. Saha emphasized the need for improved facilities in communication, education, health, and sports to support the growing population. He noted that over the years, Tripura's main towns have faced significant challenges due to rising numbers, making the development of satellite towns essential for better urban planning.
In addition to the satellite towns, the state has made notable advancements in healthcare services. The Agartala Government Medical College has expanded its offerings to include super specialty services. Recently, the college has begun performing kidney transplants and is preparing to start liver transplants, marking a significant improvement in medical care for residents.
However, the chief minister acknowledged that political instability in neighboring Bangladesh has hindered the progress of some cross-border projects. Although the Maitri Setu, a bridge over the Feni River, and the Agartala-Akhure railway line have been completed, they remain non-operational due to ongoing unrest. These projects are crucial for enhancing connectivity and trade between Tripura and Bangladesh, particularly with the Chittagong sea port.
The government's focus on infrastructure development aims not only to support the immediate needs of urban residents but also to prepare for future growth. By creating satellite towns, Tripura hopes to provide more housing and services, ultimately improving the quality of life for its citizens. The success of this initiative will depend on effective planning and execution, as well as cooperation with neighboring regions to ensure seamless connectivity.
