The municipal administration has announced that tax recovery measures will become stricter in the coming days. They are urging property owners who have fallen behind on payments to settle their accounts promptly.Aparna Thete, head of the CSMC tax department, informed that citizens can pay their taxes by visiting their nearest ward offices or through the online portal. She emphasised that effective tax recovery is crucial for the local government to fund various public services and infrastructure projects.
To enhance compliance, the CSMC has implemented a series of organized measures this fiscal year. These include sending demand notices to residents in different zones, reaching out via registered mobile numbers, and deploying special vehicles to make public announcements about tax payments. This multifaceted approach aims to inform and remind citizens about their tax obligations.
CSMC has set a significant goal of recovering INR 500 crore from property and water taxes by the end of the fiscal year. So far, they have successfully collected around INR 125 crore. In comparison, the local body raised INR 182 crore in total taxes during the previous financial year. The current recovery drive reflects the CSMC's commitment to improving its financial health and ensuring the availability of funds for essential services.
