The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has served notices to 1,200 property owners, including 100 major defaulters, urging them to settle their holding tax arrears. This move is part of the corporation's effort to meet its holding tax collection target of INR 83.27 crore for the 2024-25 fiscal year, with INR 56 crore already collected by November.

Additional Administrator Philbius Barla is closely working with employees from the revenue branch and the tax collection agency, Shri Publications and Stationers Private Limited, to expedite the tax collection process.

An official from the RMC mentioned that the holding tax has been determined for 2.25 lakh buildings within the municipal area, with a particular focus on properties that have longstanding unpaid dues or unresolved commercial tax assessments.

In recent inspections, Barla's team visited various properties across Gopal Complex, Shraddhanand Road, Upper Bazaar, and Kutchery Road. Barla emphasised the importance of timely holding tax payments to avoid penalties. He stressed that it was essential to identify and assess taxes for commercial properties that had been operating without paying their holding tax. With the financial year's deadline approaching, he assured that swift steps were being taken to ensure timely collection.

In a bid to enhance awareness, the RMC has placed hoardings at seven prominent locations: Harmu Chowk, Sahajanand Chowk, Ratu Road Chowk, Albert Ekka Chowk, Sujata Chowk, Birsa Munda Chowk, and Bariatu Chowk. These hoardings display links and barcodes for easy access to online payment options.

Barla instructed officials and the collection agency to act promptly, adding that while most property owners typically make their payments in February, the corporation aims to complete the full collection by March 2025. Property owners will receive notices and reminders for any outstanding payments. To ease the payment process, the civic body has introduced an online portal with direct payment links and barcodes for smooth transactions.

This digital initiative is designed to streamline tax collection and improve compliance among property owners.
