The 121,000 square yard plot, located in Nandigama village, Telangana, is expected to support Microsoft's plans to expand its data centre operations. This follows previous land acquisitions in Hyderabad and Maharashtra, including the purchase of a 48-acre plot for INR 267 crore in May. The company's India Development Center in Hyderabad plays a key role in the development of Microsoft's technological services. Additionally, Microsoft has been increasing its presence in the flexible office space sector.

This acquisition is part of the company's ongoing efforts to expand its footprint in India, particularly in the data centre sector. The plot, located in Nandigama village, Telangana, adds to the growing land bank Microsoft has been building in the country. Details of the deal were earlier published by the Economic Times.
In addition to this recent acquisition, Microsoft has been actively acquiring land in India. Earlier this year, it purchased a 48-acre plot in Hyderabad for INR 267 crore, with the intention of further expanding its data centre capabilities. Additionally, the company bought a 25-acre land parcel in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Maharashtra, for INR 328 crore.
This acquisition supports the expansion of Microsoft's Hyderabad data centre region, which complements the company's existing network in India, including data centres in Pune, Mumbai, and Chennai. These locations have been operational for the past five years. Microsoft also operates an India Development Center (IDC) in Hyderabad, spanning 54 acres, in addition to centres in Bengaluru and Noida. The IDC plays a vital role in the development of Microsoft's key technological offerings such as Azure, Windows, Office, and Bing.
Beyond its data centre investments, Microsoft has been increasing its presence in the flexible office space sector in India. Over the past two years, the company has expanded its flexible office spaces to around 400,000 sq ft. This includes approximately 250,000 sq ft in Tablespace, Bengaluru, and 150,000 sq ft in WeWork, Noida. Currently, Microsoft has over 20,000 employees in India working across sales, marketing, research, development, customer support, and industry solutions. Its operations span 11 cities, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, New Delhi, Gurugram, Hyderabad, and Kochi.
Microsoft's recent acquisition in Hyderabad signals its continued investment in India, particularly in the growing data centre market. This land purchase aligns with its broader strategy to expand infrastructure in the region, complementing existing operations in Pune, Mumbai, and Chennai.
