The scheme, launched in 2010 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tenure as Gujarat's Chief Minister, was described as an attempt to tackle challenges stemming from rapid urbanisation driven by the state's industrial and population growth. It was further shared that the scheme had been extended until 2026-27 due to its success.
As part of this programme, INR 141.37 crore was allocated under the Mukhyamantri Shaheri Sadak Yojana for road repairs and construction.
