The Bhopal metro project reached a critical milestone as a two-acre land clearance operation near Bhopal Railway Station marked a step forward in constructing the city's first underground metro station on the Orange Line. Executed by MPMRCL with local authorities, the operation saw the demolition of 40 shops and structures near Alpana Talkies, with INR 1.23 crore distributed as compensation to displaced parties. A major milestone for the Bhopal metro project was achieved as a significant land clearance operation was successfully conducted. Spanning approximately two acres, the operation marks a critical step toward building Bhopal's first underground metro station. The Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) has partnered with a central government institute to oversee the realignment of the approach road and utility systems in the affected area. The land clearance was primarily conducted near Bhopal Railway Station, platform number 6. Structures along the Alpana Talkies intersection leading to the station were also dismantled. According to MPMRCL officials, INR 1.23 crore in compensation was distributed to the displaced parties four months ago. In total, 40 shops were demolished, and a 20-metre section of a building near Irani Dera awaits removal. Proprietors of the remaining structure have requested additional time, and a deadline has been set for January 2.
The operation was executed by the district administration, with assistance from the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC), local police, and Railway Protection Force (RPF). The process caused significant traffic disruptions in the area, lasting until late evening.
MPMRCL sources emphasized that the clearance was conducted amicably, with prior notification given to all affected parties over the last six months. They confirmed that rightful compensation had been provided through appropriate channels. By the end of this week, one last parcel of land is expected to be acquired to finalize metro development plans.
Bhopal North MLA Atif Aqeel visited the site, interacting with displaced shopkeepers and addressing their concerns. The upcoming underground metro station will serve as a key hub on the Orange Line, which stretches from Karond Circle to AIIMS Bhopal. This metro line is an essential infrastructure project aimed at improving public transportation by connecting major residential and commercial hubs within the city. The Orange Line includes strategically placed stations, ensuring accessibility to significant locations and promoting efficient transit across Bhopal.
