The Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority (MHADA) Mumbai Board is set to kick off the construction of over 35,000 homes as part of the state government's 100-day initiative. These include the rehabilitation of 27,000 slums in Sanjay Gandhi National Park, the redevelopment of Abhyudaya Nagar in Kalachowki, and the reconstruction of 25 buildings for Sindhi refugees in GTB Nagar.
Groundbreaking ceremonies for these projects, along with the launch of several other housing projects, are expected soon. A senior official remarked that following the formation of the new government, every department was tasked with presenting a 100-day action plan to accelerate state initiatives and ambitious projects. In response, MHADA has set a target of initiating the construction of more than 33,000 homes in Mumbai through its Mumbai Board.
These three projects are anticipated to collectively result in the construction of around 31,500 homes, including 27,000 in Sanjay Gandhi National Park, 3,350 in Abhyudaya Nagar, and 1,200 in GTB Nagar. Moreover, the redevelopment of Abhyudaya Nagar will provide the Mumbai Board with an additional 40,000 sq m for housing units, while the GTB Nagar project will provide an additional 23,000 sq m of space.
MHADA's new housing initiatives under the state government's 100-day program aim to significantly improve Mumbai's housing landscape. The redevelopment of slums and the construction of new homes in key areas will not only cater to the housing needs but also provide substantial space for future residential development.
