Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced that the Patna metro rail is set to begin operations on August 15, 2025, coinciding with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's development agenda ahead of state elections. Choudhary further shared the target date for the Patna metro rail's operation, confirming that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is expected to inaugurate the service on that day. The statement came after the presentation of the appropriation Bill, which allocates INR 32,506.90 crore under the second supplementary budget for the 2024-25 financial year, ending March 31, 2025. Choudhary explained that these funds would be used for centrally sponsored schemes and the state's own development initiatives.
The supplementary budget, along with the related appropriation Bill, was passed by a voice vote in the House, despite the absence of opposition members, who had staged a walkout. Their protest stemmed from the government's failure to address their demand to halt the installation of smart prepaid meters.
Choudhary, who also holds the position of finance minister, explained that the supplementary budget would finance various projects, including road repairs, the construction of new medical colleges, and the enhancement of infrastructure in the tourism sector. Additionally, plans are in place to establish a new tourist hub in Kaimur district.
The debate in the House on the second supplementary budget began with a focus on the INR 3,028.91 crore allocated to the social welfare department. CPI(ML) member Ajay Kumar initiated the discussion.
In his response, Minister Madan Sahani highlighted the positive outcomes of several government schemes, noting the number of beneficiaries and emphasizing that these programs had significantly benefited the extremely backward castes.
