Jaipur Development Authority seals buildings in Gokul Nagar for violating construction regulations

Synopsis

The JDA recently sealed two buildings with illegal constructions in Gokul Nagar in Jaipur. A tip from the locals alerted the authority about two buildings on Kalwar Road about buildings that were not implementing the mandatory construction laws, and the developers were subsequently served notices under Section 32, 33, and 34(a) of the JDA Act 1982. If the developers do not adhere to the laws immediately, then the enforcement wing has the go-ahead to knock the buildings down. JDA has created helplines for locals to report enforcement related concerns.

Last week, the Jaipur Development Authority sealed two buildings in Gokul Nagar on Kalwar Road. Information from locals pushed the JDA to seal the sites under construction, which were multi-storied buildings.

According to officials, the builders made two buildings, each with four floors and a basement. However, they didn't leave enough gangway - open space - on the ground floor as required, as well as not creating the mandated gap between the buildings and the building next to them.

An official from the JDA said that the developers were sent notices under Section 32 and Section 33 of the JDA Act 1982, and the builders did not respond by removing the illegal constructions, which led authorities to seal the buildings. The developers were thereafter sent notices under Section 34(a) of the same Act.

Over the weekend, enforcement officials and engineers from the local government visited the construction site and sealed the main gates with cement to prevent anyone from entering the buildings, which are still being built.

If the developers do not follow the legal procedures, and continue to not respond to the notices, the enforcement authorities will have the right to tear down the buildings. Additionally, the JDA can also serve a demand notice to recoup the demolition expenses.

Deputy Inspector General of the police, Kailash Chandra Bishnoi, has requested that all citizens report any complaints related to law enforcement directly to the control room using the following phone numbers: 0141 2565800, 0141 2575252, and 0141 2575151.

In conclusion, the sealing of the buildings in Gokul Nagar highlights the Jaipur Development Authority's commitment to enforcing construction regulations. With the developers failing to rectify illegal construction practices, including inadequate gangways and spacing, further legal actions, including potential demolition, loom. Citizens are encouraged to report any law enforcement issues to ensure compliance and community safety.
