He outlined various welfare initiatives, including reservation reforms, support for sanitation workers, and plans to build homes for the poor. The Haryana government recently commemorated the birth anniversary of Maharishi Valmiki with a state-level event held at Eklavya Stadium in Jind district, attended by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini as the chief guest. The Chief Minister paid his respects by offering flowers at Maharishi Valmiki's portrait and later sought blessings from the saints present at the ceremony.
On this occasion, CM Saini announced a grant of INR 51 lakh for the construction of Maharishi Valmiki Bhavan in Narwana town, Jind district. He further mentioned that assistance would be provided for the construction of a student hostel in Hisar.
CM Saini praised Maharishi Valmiki for setting an exemplary standard for rulers in the Ramayana and stated that the Haryana government, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is working towards the upliftment and welfare of every citizen in the state, particularly the marginalized communities. He highlighted the government's efforts to implement the classification of reservations within the Scheduled Castes into two categories: "Deprived Scheduled Castes" and "Other Scheduled Castes."
He explained that 50% of the 20% reservation for Scheduled Castes in direct government recruitment would be allocated to the deprived category. If suitable candidates from the deprived category are not available, the positions will be filled by candidates from the other Scheduled Castes.
To promote the teachings of great figures like Maharishi Valmiki, Sant Kabir Das, Sant Ravi Das, and Baba Saheb Ambedkar, CM Saini announced the establishment of Samrasta Virasat Kendras in major cities.
In a significant move for sanitation workers, the Haryana government formed the Haryana State Sanitation Workers Commission. The Commission will ensure compensation for sanitation workers, including INR 5 lakh for those who die during duty, and INR 10 lakh for those who die while working in sewage. The government also committed to raising salaries for sanitation workers from INR 16,000-17,000 to INR 26,000-27,000 per month, and ensuring that 50% of cleaning contracts go to sanitation workers and their groups.
The Chief Minister also stated that 5 lakh houses would be built for the poor in urban and rural areas. Under the Chief Minister's Urban Housing Scheme, 15,250 plots of 30 square yards each have been allocated to poor families. Furthermore, under the Prime Minister's Housing Scheme, homes are being constructed for the poor, while INR 80,000 will be provided under the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Housing Renovation Scheme for home repairs.
Additionally, CM Saini highlighted that 48 lakh Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in Haryana receive free food grains, and 13 lakh poor families have been given LPG connections under the Prime Minister's Ujjwala Scheme. Gas cylinders are also provided at a subsidised rate of INR 500 for BPL families. "Happy Cards" have been issued to poor families, offering them free travel on Haryana Roadways buses for up to 1,000 kilometers annually.
Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Krishna Kumar Bedi criticised the previous Bhupinder Singh Hooda government for not implementing the Punjab and Haryana High Court's ruling, claiming their efforts were focused on reducing reservations rather than expanding them.
The Haryana government's recent initiatives showcase a strong focus on the welfare of marginalised communities, sanitation workers, and the poor. By making key announcements related to reservation reforms, housing, sanitation, and food security, CM Nayab Singh Saini reaffirmed the state's commitment to improving the lives of its citizens. The establishment of Samrasta Virasat Kendras and other welfare schemes are also indicative of the government's dedication to promoting social justice. Despite these efforts, the previous government's actions regarding reservations have come under criticism for failing to implement crucial reforms.
