During a recent review in Ladakh, Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced a survey to identify homeless individuals under the PM Awas Yojana, aiming to ensure adequate shelter for all. He praised the performance of local power and housing departments and highlighted the potential for solar energy with a 13 GW solar plant in progress. Khattar also discussed financial support for street vendors and emphasized waste management and worker safety goals. He directed officials to expedite project reports for water and sewage systems while assuring that additional power demands during winter will be met by the Government of India.
Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar reviewed the operations of the power and housing departments in Ladakh and announced plans to conduct a survey of all homeless individuals under PM Awas Yojana in the Union Territory to ensure that no one is left without shelter. He expressed satisfaction with their performance and promised to provide all necessary support to tackle the challenges posed by the region's difficult terrain.
Khattar highlighted Ladakh's significant potential for solar power development, citing its expansive land area. He noted that work is underway on a 13 GW solar plant designed to meet local energy needs and support energy demands across other regions of the country.
Additionally, he mentioned that financial assistance has been extended to all street vendors under the PM Street Vendor's AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme, emphasizing that efforts will be made to ensure no one is overlooked.
On the topics of waste management and worker safety, Khattar underscored Ladakh's goal of achieving 100% waste processing. He also stressed the importance of improving the working conditions for 'Safai Mitras' to eliminate occupational hazards.
He directed officials to expedite the preparation of detailed project reports (DPRs) for water supply and sewage treatment projects in Leh and Kargil.
Addressing the power department's challenges during the winter months, Khattar assured that the additional power demand in the UT would be met from the Government of India's surplus quota to ensure a continuous supply. He also committed to resolving manpower issues within the power department as quickly as possible.
The Ladakh administration has submitted estimates totaling Rs 1,080 crore under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, with approvals anticipated soon, according to the minister.
Khattar announced that ongoing projects under the PM Deendayal Package would be completed by December and revealed plans to establish power supply and distribution lines to Nubra Valley and Zanskar Valley, significantly improving energy availability in these areas. He assured that efforts are being made urgently to address the bottlenecks affecting various project implementations.
