Mumbai Police has issued a public notification stating that it is not mandatory to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the police in order to rent out a flat or apartment. The police department also provided information on how to furnish details about tenants.



According to the notification, citizens can provide information about their rented properties to the Mumbai Police through various channels. They can either apply online, submit an application directly to the relevant Police Station, or send the application via registered post to the concerned police station. These online services have been introduced to facilitate the submission of rental property information within the jurisdiction of the Mumbai Police.



To ensure the authenticity of the information, the police emphasized that the address of the landlord and the rented property should not be the same. Both the landlord and the tenant are responsible for ensuring that the provided information is accurate and truthful.



The police also highlighted that providing false information to law enforcement is a punishable offense. If any discrepancies are found in the information provided, legal action can be taken against the applicant/landlord responsible for the false information.



Importantly, the service for submitting rental property information is free of cost. If anyone demands money or engages in malpractices related to this process, the public is urged to report such incidents to the senior police inspector at the concerned police station or to senior officials within the police department.



In addition to this notification, Mumbai Police had recently issued a preventive order for property owners and individuals seeking rental premises. This preventive order was issued due to the prevailing situation within the areas under the jurisdiction of the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai. The order aimed to address concerns about the possibility of subversive or anti-social elements seeking hideouts in residential areas, which could potentially disrupt public peace and pose a threat to human life and property.



As per the preventive order, landlords, property owners, and individuals involved in property businesses within the jurisdiction of the Mumbai Police Commissioner must promptly provide details of their tenants through the citizen portal on the official website of the Mumbai Police.



By implementing these measures, the Mumbai Police aims to enhance public safety and maintain peace within the city. Citizens are encouraged to comply with these requirements and cooperate with the police in ensuring the security of residential areas.
