Trichy is positioning itself as the next big destination for IT and IT-enabled services (ITES), with Tidel Park Limited initiating a landmark INR 315.2 crore tender for a massive new IT Park. This development is set to dramatically reshape the city's business landscape by adding 5.5 lakh square feet of prime office space in its first phase, effectively tripling Trichy's existing IT infrastructure.

The new Tidel Park, a joint venture between the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) and Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT), will be strategically located near the upcoming Integrated Bus Terminus (IBT) on the Trichy-Madurai National Highway. This ensures excellent connectivity for the businesses that will eventually set up operations in the facility. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2025 and is expected to take 18 months to complete, according to official sources. The phased development will initially offer a ground-plus-six-floor structure, with plans for an additional 5.5 lakh square feet in a second phase.

This ambitious project is a direct response to the rising interest from investors drawn to Trichy's advantages-its low operational costs and access to a growing pool of talent. In parallel, private developers are also responding to demand by planning to contribute an additional 6 lakh square feet of IT office space. With the combined efforts of public and private initiatives, Trichy is poised to emerge as a significant IT hub in the region.

Currently, Trichy's IT infrastructure consists of 1.8 lakh square feet of office space in government-owned facilities at the Trichy ELCOT IT Park in Navalpattu. With the completion of the Tidel Park, the city's office space will surge to 7.3 lakh square feet, marking a major leap forward for its business ecosystem.

The rise of Trichy as an IT destination is also being fueled by private investments, particularly from those eyeing the city's manufacturing sector. Former CII Trichy Zone chairman, A R Syed Arif, mentioned that there is a growing number of inquiries for office space. He expressed optimism that the establishment of a large IT company in Trichy would accelerate this trend, enhancing the city's appeal to global investors.

Real estate development in Trichy is expanding beyond the city center to areas like Kattur and the Airport, which are now emerging as hubs for office space. In response to the growing demand, CII Trichy plans to host events connecting IT investors with real estate developers. Chella Ramaswamy, chairman of CII Trichy, acknowledged that while much focus has been on residential projects, there is now a pressing need for commercial spaces. He indicated that future developments could also include malls, luxury hotels, and entertainment centers, catering to the rising demand from IT professionals and other business sectors.

With this upcoming IT Park, Trichy is set to transform its economic landscape, offering a cost-effective alternative to major cities while harnessing the city's untapped potential.
