The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has intensified its anti-encroachment efforts, seizing properties worth around INR 460 crore in Nagarabhavi, west Bengaluru. On September 29, land in survey numbers 78 and 129 was reclaimed from illegal occupants who had established commercial operations. This operation led to the demolition of over 40 unauthorised shops and the recovery of six acres valued at INR 430 crore. The BDA also removed illegal structures from Kaggadasapura lake, securing INR 2 crore worth of land for future protection against encroachments.
The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has ramped up its efforts to combat encroachments, seizing properties valued at approximately INR 460 crore in two areas of Nagarabhavi, located in west Bengaluru. On September 29, the BDA reclaimed land in survey numbers 78 and 129 that had been unlawfully occupied and utilised for commercial purposes. Encroachers had erected commercial shops, garages, and other businesses on the land, collecting rent from tenants. BDA officials uncovered the encroachments, which resulted in a legal dispute that ultimately favoured the authority.
A senior member of the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) stated that following a court order, the BDA initiated an operation in survey number 78, during which they used CB machines to demolish warehouses and sheds. As a result of this operation, the authority successfully reclaimed six acres of land valued at approximately INR 430 crore.
In a separate operation, the BDA reclaimed property worth INR 30 crore in survey number 129, an area that had been designated for acquisition in 1985 for the development of Nagarabhavi 1st Stage. Encroachers had constructed unauthorised sheds, garages, and a nursery garden on the BDA land, occupying both corner and intermediate plots. During the demolition drive, officials reported that over 40 unauthorised shops were razed in just a few minutes. While the shop owners expressed their devastation over the sudden action, the BDA clarified that prior notices had been issued to them.
In a separate operation, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) removed illegal structures from the Kaggadasapura lake area in east Bengaluru. This action followed a survey conducted by the revenue department, which identified approximately 2.5 guntas of land in the lake area that had been occupied by sheds and open spaces. The cleared land, estimated to be valued at INR 2 crore, has been secured, and the process of fencing the area has commenced to prevent any further encroachments.
The BDA's aggressive action underscores its commitment to reclaiming public land and maintaining urban integrity. This approach aims to deter further encroachments and protect valuable urban spaces for community development.
