Chief Minister Mohan Yadav recently called for the formulation of a comprehensive plan to construct office buildings in Arera Hills, including the Satpura-Vindhyachal building area, in accordance with current needs. He pointed out that the area will soon benefit from the addition of a metro system and an upgraded road network. To improve convenience for both employees and the general public, Yadav stressed the importance of developing infrastructure that prioritises walk-to-work facilities near workplaces.
He made these remarks during a meeting at the Mantralaya, where various projects undertaken by the public works department (PWD) were reviewed. Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh, Chief Secretary Anurag Jain, and other officials were present at the meeting. The discussions also included Indore's eastern bypass project and the campaign to make roads pothole-free.
Yadav mentioned that the eastern bypass project in Indore should be executed with the cooperation of local farmers and residents, stressing that the development must prioritise the welfare and interests of the area's population. He also underlined the importance of using the latest technology for road maintenance work.
During the meeting, it was reported that, under the special road repair campaign carried out from early August to early September, approximately 36,000 km of roads were repaired, according to the chief engineer of roads and bridges. Furthermore, 46,516 km of roads are registered on the Lok-Path app, which enables citizens to report potholes. In the past two months, 3,721 complaints have been lodged through the app, of which 3,652 have been resolved.
In relation to the condition of the roads, show-cause notices were issued to 15 executive engineers, and notices were sent to 156 contractors. Additionally, INR 73.30 lakh was confiscated from nine contractors, and their registrations were blacklisted. As part of the campaign, the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation revoked toll rights from investors on three routes under the OMT Yojana.
Punitive measures were taken against the contractors, with penalties exceeding INR 1.30 crore. The Road Development Corporation also issued show-cause notices to 17 contractors and 6 officials for poor road maintenance.
During the meeting, it was reported that a pilot project for white topping is being carried out on 41 selected asphalt roads across 21 districts of the state. White topping involves applying a layer of concrete, typically 6 to 8 inches thick, over the asphalt roads.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Rajesh Rajoura, Additional Chief Secretary of the General Administration Sanjay Dubey, Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar Shukla, Principal Secretary of Finance Manish Rastogi, along with other departmental officers.
The meeting underscored the Madhya Pradesh government's commitment to enhancing infrastructure and addressing public concerns, particularly regarding road conditions and urban development. The implementation of advanced technologies, along with the pilot white topping project, demonstrates a forward-thinking approach to road maintenance. The government's actions against negligent contractors and officials further highlight its resolve to ensure accountability. By focusing on local welfare, especially in projects like the Indore eastern bypass, the administration aims to create a more efficient and people-centric infrastructure system, fostering better living and working conditions for its citizens.
