The Aqua line, as it is known, began services after non-peak hours, with many eager passengers arriving at stations before the trains started running. An official from the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) stated that, since the launch coincided with non-peak hours, many initial riders were simply enjoying the experience, but ridership began to increase during the evening peak.
Regular services are set to begin shortly, operating from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm from Monday to Saturday and 8:30 am to 10:30 pm on Sundays. The BKC station saw a significant number of office-goers opting for the metro instead of traditional road transport, resulting in queues of up to 15 minutes at ticket counters.
Commuters expressed satisfaction with the direct connection from Aarey station, noting the convenience over cab rides. Some remarked that the metro significantly cut down travel time, with one commuter sharing how the journey that typically took 40 minutes was now just 20. Passengers appreciated the underground infrastructure and amenities, praising the smooth operation of the trains on their first day. However, there were concerns regarding mobile network connectivity and internet access in the underground sections, which some commuters found problematic for work-related tasks.
A group heading to the T2 airport described the journey as "speedy" but noted that stops at certain platforms felt prolonged. Additionally, elderly passengers raised concerns about the absence of escalators at specific entry points, while others reported closed toilets at some stations. Safety issues were also highlighted, with reports of glitches in automatic doors and closed entry and exit points at several locations.
Many passengers faced challenges with last-mile connectivity after disembarking, requiring them to walk considerable distances to access auto-rickshaws or buses. Despite these initial hurdles, the metro service presents a more efficient and comfortable alternative for commuters reliant on road transport. Currently, tickets priced at INR10 can be purchased through the Metro Connect app or at cash counters and automated vending machines.
