The construction of the Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor of Metro Phase-IV in Delhi is set to expedite after Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena's approval to acquire land in Khanpur Village. The approved land acquisition and transfer will facilitate the development of an interchange station on the RK Ashram-Majlis Park and Indraprastha-Inder Lok corridors and the underground Nabi Karim Metro Station on Idgah Road. This critical infrastructure project is expected to significantly benefit commuters from densely populated areas of Southeast Delhi, easing access to the airport and other key locations while addressing persistent traffic congestion on the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road.
Raj Niwas officials announced that the construction of the Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor of Metro Phase-IV will be expedited as Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved the acquisition of land in Khanpur Village. Saxena has approved the acquisition of 1,688 square metres of land in Khanpur Village, located in South Delhi. Additionally, the LG has approved the transfer of 1,600 square metres of land belonging to the Education Department to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for one year, with a rent of INR 13.37 lakh. This move will facilitate the construction of an interchange station on the RK Ashram-Majlis Park and Indraprastha-InderLok corridors of the Delhi Metro.
The vacant land acquired will be used for the development of an underground Nabi Karim Metro Station on the Idgah Road. Once the construction is completed, the land will be returned to the Education Department. The land acquisition in Khanpur had been pending for over four years, with DMRC requesting the acquisition on 7 July 2020. Officials stated that once the acquisition is complete, this critical section of the Aerocity-Tughlakabad metro corridor will be completed in approximately one year.
This development is expected to significantly benefit commuters from the densely populated areas of Southeast Delhi, providing them with easier access to the airport and other locations along the metro line, while also addressing the persistent traffic congestion on the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road. Furthermore, the Nabi Karim interchange station at Idgah Road will facilitate seamless metro travel for commuters on the heavily utilised RK Ashram-Majlis Park and Indraprastha-InderLok corridors of the Delhi Metro network.
This strategic infrastructure investment promises to enhance the quality of life for thousands of Delhi residents, while also contributing to the city's broader sustainability and development goals.
