Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has unveiled ambitious plans to develop Amaravati into an Artificial Intelligence (AI) city, emphasising technology integration in urban planning. Naidu's vision includes a futuristic design for the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) building, a revived HappyNest residential project, and expanded land acquisition of 3,558 acres. Additionally, Naidu plans to enhance transport infrastructure with Metro projects in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, involving investments of up to INR 17,400 crore. These initiatives aim to position Amaravati as a leading smart city, driving innovation and investment in the region.
In a bold move to reshape the future of Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has set ambitious plans to develop the capital into an Artificial Intelligence (AI) city. During a review meeting dedicated to capital development, Naidu urged officials to prioritise the integration of technology in all aspects of urban planning and infrastructure within the city. His vision includes creating a distinctive logo for Amaravati, cleverly playing on the first and last letters of "AI" to reflect its new technological identity.
Naidu expressed concern about the previous government's approach to Amaravati, claiming it diminished the capital's potential. His administration envisions a thriving centre for innovation where technology permeates everyday life.
One key focus of Naidu's rejuvenation plan is the completion of the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) building. He urged officials to finalise its construction within 90 days, incorporating futuristic technology into its design. This project is a critical step in establishing Amaravati as a leading municipality equipped for the digital age.
A significant point raised during the meeting was the future of the HappyNest project, a residential initiative that was halted by the previous YSRCP government. Originally, the project sold all its units within an hour during Naidu's previous term. In light of rising demand, he is pushing for its revival, as it once promised substantial benefits to the CRDA and those seeking to settle in Amaravati. Naidu pointed out that the abandonment of this project represents a significant loss, and he is calling for strategies to mitigate these setbacks.
The expansion of Amaravati also involves land acquisition. Officials revealed that an additional 3,558 acres are required to move forward with city development. Encouragingly, farmers from two surrounding villages are willing to sell their land, although there are reports of complications regarding the allocation of developed plots to these landowners. Naidu has asked for these issues to be addressed through open dialogue to ensure a fair resolution for all parties involved.
In addition to urban redevelopment, Naidu is also keen on enhancing the city's transport infrastructure. Plans for Metro rail projects in both Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam are on his agenda. According to Ramakrishna Reddy, managing director of the Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation, the Visakhapatnam project will occur in two phases, with the first extending 46 kilometres at a projected cost of INR 11,400 crore, and the second phase adding another 30 kilometres for INR 5,734 crore. Similarly, he called for the rapid advancement of the Vijayawada Metro, which aims for a coverage of 38 kilometres at an investment of INR 11,000 crore.
Overall, these efforts signify a shift towards a modernised Amaravati, equipped with cutting-edge technology and enhanced infrastructure. Naidu's plans set a clear direction for the capital, aiming to attract investment and residents, thereby ensuring its status as a dynamic urban centre in the region.
