The Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) plans to build residential complexes for workers in industrial areas such as Ujjain and Bhopal. The goal is to provide housing for employees who work far from city centres and to support local industries. One major project involves constructing over 1,000 flats in Pithampur, a key industrial zone. This initiative aims to address the housing needs of thousands of workers who commute daily and struggle due to the lack of proper housing near their workplaces.

MPIDC Managing Director Chandramauli Shukla outlined the goal of creating residential zones within industrial areas to house the workforce and develop a robust industrial ecosystem. This initiative aims to support industries situated at a distance from city centres. The project will begin in industrial regions where there is a high demand for housing. MPIDC will soon announce tenders for the construction of these residential blocks, starting with areas in Vikram Udhyogpuri, Ujjain, and Mandideep, Bhopal.

In Pithampur, which hosts over 1,000 industries, MPIDC plans to build 1,362 residential flats in Sector 1 and Sector 6. The flats will include Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) units, studio apartments, and 2 BHK and 3 BHK flats. The project is expected to cost INR 211 crore, excluding land costs, and will provide homes for industrial workers. Pithampur's industrial belt requires 15,000-20,000 houses to meet the needs of its workforce. Many workers currently commute from cities such as Indore and Dewas. Gautam Kothar, President of Pithampur Audhyogik Sanghatan, mentioned that the lack of proper housing makes it difficult for workers to live near their jobs, despite their preference for it.

With these new residential blocks, more workers are expected to reside closer to their workplaces, reducing commute times and enhancing productivity. MPIDC will soon initiate the process by launching a tender for building the residential blocks. The initial focus will be on industrial zones with high occupancy. As the project progresses, it will expand to cover more areas, improving housing for workers across Madhya Pradesh.
