The Noida International Airport, initially set to open in September, is now projected to commence operations by April 2025 due to steel procurement delays. During a review meeting, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized resolving construction issues at the government level and warned of a daily INR 1 million fine on the airport concessionaire, YIAPL, if further delays occur. With land acquisition for Phase 2 underway, the project's completion remains a priority, focusing on connectivity, infrastructure readiness, and addressing farmer concerns. The airport's phased development aims to enhance regional growth and connectivity.
During a recent review meeting with officials from the district administration, the Yamuna Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), and the airport concessionaire, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stressed that any construction issues should be resolved at the government level.
Originally expected to commence operations in September, the Noida International Airport is now projected to begin commercial operations by April 2025 due to partial delays caused by slower steel procurement. Government officials have announced that a daily fine of INR 1 million will be imposed on the airport concessionaire, Yamuna International Airport Ltd (YIAPL), once the 91-day grace period beyond the original deadline expires.
Last month, YIAPL representatives reported that the runway was completed, with ongoing work on runway markings and ground lighting. Calibration flights to test the instrument landing system are scheduled for September and October, with validation flights for approach and departure procedures planned for December. After these steps, they will apply for the aerodrome license from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which is required to start commercial operations.
At the recently held meeting, Chief Minister Adityanath also discussed the challenges of land acquisition for the project. He advised officials to promptly address farmer concerns to ensure a smooth transition and warned against allowing outsiders to mislead local villagers. He recommended utilising the expertise of the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) in the land acquisition process.
The district administration has begun acquiring land for Phase 2 of the project, which will involve the development of maintenance and repair facilities, as well as aviation hubs. This phase requires 1,365 acres of land, mainly in Karauli Bangar, Dayanatpur, Kuraib, Ranhera, Mudharh, and surrounding villages.
The Chief Minister also emphasised the need to ensure connectivity to the airport, stressing that all planned rail, metro, and other transportation facilities must be completed on schedule. The first phase of the airport, covering 1,334 hectares in Jewar, will include a runway and terminal designed to handle 12 million passengers annually. The airport's development will occur in four phases, eventually incorporating several hubs.
The Noida International Airport project is a pivotal development for the region, with significant milestones ahead. Chief Minister Adityanath's focus on timely completion, efficient land acquisition, and robust connectivity highlights the project's importance for regional infrastructure and economic growth. While Phase 1 aims to establish a major transportation hub, addressing land acquisition challenges and ensuring the readiness of supporting infrastructure will be crucial for meeting future deadlines. The project's successful execution will enhance connectivity and drive further development in the area.
