Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) has started work on the detailed project report (DPR) for its Phase?III extension, linking Aluva to Angamaly through Kochi airport. The DPR, awarded to Systra MVA Consulting India at about INR?1.3?crore, is expected within six months. Preparatory work includes soil testing, topographic surveys, and temporary land marking. The 17.5 km corridor will feature both elevated and underground sections. Public feedback will be invited to align planning with community expectations. Mumbai University has commissioned a 200 kW solar-power system at its Kalina campus, covering seven key buildings, including Ambedkar Bhavan, Mehta Bhavan, and the Life Science Block. With net metering, this installation is expected to generate around 260,000 units annually and save over INR 4 lakh per month in electricity costs. The project is part of a larger green campus push, backed by a partnership with Comet India and United Way Mumbai, that also includes rainwater harvesting, recycling, biodiversity efforts, and climate-skills programmes.Read more

The Andhra Pradesh government has approved INR 27 crore for restoring four rain-water outfall canals connected to the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport in Vizianagaram district. These canals OT1, OT2, OT4 and OT5 require desilting and improvements to handle storm-water flow from the airport site. The funds will be drawn from the HUDCO-supported INR 1,000 crore loan pool. The Water Resources Department will carry out the works. The government also requires the airport's master plan to include harvesting of at least 50% of on-site storm-water. The airport is scheduled for inauguration in August 2026.Read more

Mizoram Chief Minister Shri Lalduhoma met Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi this week to discuss pending and upcoming railway projects linked to the state's long-term connectivity plans. The CM requested the finalisation of the Sairang-Thenzawl rail line alignment in line with the Thenzawl Peace City master plan, and the minister indicated that the review would be completed by February 2026. The discussion also covered adjustments to train timings, reducing the Sairang-New Delhi travel time, increasing service frequency, linking the state's Inner Line Permit portal with IRCTC, and planning a warehouse near Sairang station.Read more

Indian Railways launched two new MEMU services connecting Delhi Junction-Shamli and Delhi Shahdara-Shamli to improve mobility for commuters, students, farmers, and professionals. The inauguration was led by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and MoS Jayant Chaudhary at Baraut station. Shamli station is being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at a cost of INR 25 cr. Since 2014, Uttar Pradesh has added 5,272 km of rail tracks, fully electrified its lines, built over 1,460 flyovers/bridges, and installed lifts, escalators, and Wi-Fi across many stations.Read more

Meghalaya Chief Minister Shri Conrad K. Sangma met Union Civil Aviation Minister Shri K. Rammohan Naidu in New Delhi this week to push for the long-planned expansion of Shillong Airport and for the inclusion of Baljek Airport near Tura under the UDAN regional connectivity scheme. Sangma conveyed that both projects are important for improving air travel, boosting tourism and creating more economic opportunities for local communities. The Andhra Pradesh government has launched a INR 66,523-crore urban infrastructure acceleration mission under the PPP model, targeting major upgrades across 12 priority sectors by 2029. The plan focuses on smart water systems, modern transit corridors, integrated mobility, sustainable housing and advanced utilities, excluding Amaravati's development. The state expects the programme to add nearly INR 2.8 lakh crore to GSDP and has allocated INR 2,000 crore as Viability Gap Funding. The initiative is set to create about 2.3 lakh jobs, with strong emphasis on skilled youth and women's participation. Key proposals include five smart cities, 2,500 km of road upgrades, 15 transit systems and INR 35,000 crore in FDI for economic zones.Read more

Metro Railway Kolkata is preparing a major upgrade of its Blue Line by constructing seven new traction substations across key stations on the corridor. These will be located at Kalighat, Netaji Bhawan, Maidan, Esplanade, MG Road, Sovabazar-Sutanuti, and between Belgachia and Shyambazar. Orders have also been placed for two additional substations at Chandni Chowk and Geetanjali. Along with this, the ventilation and cooling systems in tunnels and stations are being modernised to enhance safety, reduce energy usage, and improve overall performance. Recent past upgrades and planned signalling improvements also support this long-term modernisation effort.Read more

Maharashtra is undertaking a major initiative to reduce traffic congestion in Mumbai by creating an extensive underground tunnel network called 'Paatal Lok.' The tunnels, designed to run parallel to existing roads, will complement Metro expansions and coastal road projects, improving east-west and north-south connectivity. Key projects include tunnels linking Thane-Borivali, Mulund-Goregaon, Atal Setu-Girgaon Chowpatty, and Bandra-Bandra Kurla Complex. South Central Railway (SCR) is working on a long-term plan to expand Hyderabad's rail network by building three major terminals at Nagalapalli, Jukal and Dabilpur. These terminals are linked to the Regional Ring Rail (RRR) project, estimated at INR 26,000 crore and planned to run around 392-420 km while connecting several surrounding districts. The upcoming facilities are intended to ease pressure on busy stations like Secunderabad, Kacheguda and Hyderabad.
