• The Noida Authority has floated a tender worth INR 18.8 crore to install sound barriers along the Bhangel Elevated Road.
• The project aims to reduce traffic-related noise for residential neighbourhoods and institutions located along the corridor.
• Authorities expect the intervention to improve the urban environment around one of the city’s busiest elevated road stretches.
The Noida Authority has initiated the process of installing sound barriers along the Bhangel Elevated Road by issuing a tender valued at approximately INR 18.8 crore. The project is aimed at addressing concerns over noise pollution generated by heavy traffic movement on the elevated corridor.
The proposed barriers will be installed along sections of the road that pass close to residential colonies, commercial establishments and educational institutions. Officials stated that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to improve urban infrastructure while mitigating the environmental impact of increasing vehicular traffic.
The Bhangel Elevated Road has emerged as a key transport corridor in Noida, carrying substantial daily traffic and improving connectivity between various sectors of the city. However, residents living near the stretch have raised concerns regarding continuous noise generated by vehicles, particularly during peak traffic hours.
Authorities believe that installation of dedicated sound barriers will help reduce the transmission of traffic noise into surrounding neighbourhoods. Such barriers are commonly used in urban transport projects to minimise disturbance in densely populated areas located near highways, flyovers and elevated road networks.
The project is expected to cover identified portions of the corridor where noise levels have been a recurring concern. The selected contractor will be responsible for the design, supply and installation of the barriers in accordance with prescribed technical and environmental standards.
Urban planners have increasingly emphasised the need to integrate environmental mitigation measures into transport infrastructure projects as cities expand and traffic volumes continue to rise. Noise management has become a growing focus area in metropolitan regions where residential developments often coexist alongside major mobility corridors.
The move comes as Noida continues investing in transport infrastructure to improve connectivity and ease congestion across the city. Several road, flyover and mobility projects are currently underway to support population growth and expanding commercial activity in the National Capital Region.
Officials indicated that the sound barrier project is expected to enhance the quality of life for residents living along the elevated road while ensuring that infrastructure expansion remains aligned with environmental considerations. The tender process is now underway, following which construction and installation activities are expected to commence.
Once completed, the project is expected to provide a long-term solution to noise-related concerns along the corridor and complement the city’s broader efforts to create more sustainable and commuter-friendly urban infrastructure.
