Synopsis

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation has awarded the first construction-related consultancy contract for the East-West Corridor of the Lucknow Metro under Phase 1B, marking a key step towards project implementation. The Detailed Design Consultant contract for Line-2 has been awarded to a joint venture between AYESA Ingenieria Arquitectura SAU and AYESA India Pvt Ltd, following a competitive bidding process. Valued at INR 15.90 crore, the contract covers detailed design work for civil, architectural, electrical, mechanical and traction systems across both elevated and underground sections of the corridor. The East-West Corridor will span over 11 km, connecting Charbagh Railway Station with Vasant Kunj through Old Lucknow, and forms part of a larger metro expansion approved earlier as part of the city's urban transport development plans.

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has awarded the first construction-related consultancy contract for the East-West Corridor of the Lucknow Metro, initiating implementation activities for Line-2 under Phase 1B of the project. The contract has been awarded to a joint venture comprising AYESA Ingenieria Arquitectura SAU and AYESA India Pvt Ltd.

UPMRC stated that the joint venture emerged as the lowest bidder for the Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contract for Lucknow Metro Line-2. Based on the financial bid submitted by the firm, the contract, valued at INR 15.90 crore, has been recommended for award. The consultancy assignment will be executed over a contract period of 60 months.

The East-West Corridor of the Lucknow Metro envisages the development of an 11.165-km-long metro line connecting Charbagh Railway Station to Vasant Kunj. The alignment will pass through Old Lucknow and include a total of 12 metro stations, aimed at improving east-west connectivity across densely populated and historically significant parts of the city.

As per the Detailed Project Report, the corridor will comprise both elevated and underground sections. The elevated stretch will extend for around 4.286 km and include five stations between Vasant Kunj and Thakurganj. The remaining 6.879 km will be constructed underground, with seven stations located between Charbagh and Niwazganj. The project also includes the development of a depot at Vasant Kunj to support operations and maintenance.

The Lucknow Metro Line-2 project received approval from the central government earlier, with the overall project cost estimated at around INR 5,801 crore. The East-West Corridor is expected to play a critical role in easing traffic congestion, improving public transport accessibility and supporting sustainable urban mobility in the city.

UPMRC had invited bids for the DDC contract earlier as part of its preparatory activities for Phase 1B. Two bidders qualified at the technical evaluation stage, including the AYESA joint venture and the SYSTRA Ardanuy joint venture. Financial bids were opened earlier this year, following which AYESA was identified as the lowest bidder.

Under the scope of work, the Detailed Design Consultant will be responsible for preparing detailed designs for civil works, architectural components, electrical and mechanical systems, and traction infrastructure for both the elevated and underground sections of the corridor. The consultancy will also cover design responsibilities related to the proposed metro depot.

UPMRC indicated that the award of this consultancy contract represents the first major milestone towards on-ground implementation of the East-West Corridor, setting the stage for subsequent construction-related activities under the Lucknow Metro expansion programme.
