The Maharashtra government plans to roll out the Mumbai water metro project in phases starting December, aiming to ease traffic congestion across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Ports Minister Nitesh Rane said a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be submitted by February 28, after which two routes will be finalised for the first phase. The INR 1,200 crore project proposes six to eight routes using battery-powered ferries, initially focusing on key Mumbai city stretches such as Nariman Point, Worli, Bandra, Juhu and Versova.
