The central government has revised toll charges for national highway stretches with structures like tunnels, bridges, and flyovers, reducing rates by up to 50%. Under the amended NH Fee Rules, 2008, tolls will now be calculated using a new formula: either ten times the length of the structures added to the remaining section or five times the total highway length-whichever is lesser. For example, a 40 km structural stretch will now be tolled based on 200 km instead of 400 km. This change lowers travel costs for motorists while addressing high construction expenses, according to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and NHAI.Read more

The Invest Kerala Global Summit (IKGS), held in Kochi in February 2025, has attracted investments worth INR 1.77 lakh crore across 424 projects. In July alone, projects worth INR 1,500 crore-including ventures by BlueStar Realtors, Canyo Health, and Kaynes Technology-will commence. August will see another INR 1,437 crore in projects begin, including Green Worms Waste Management, Renai Medicity, and Nitta Gelatin. Unitholders of IRB InvIT Fund have approved the acquisition of 100% equity in three highway SPVs-Hapur Moradabad Tollway, Kaithal Tollway, and Kishangarh Gulabpura Tollway-from IRB Infrastructure Trust, at an enterprise value of INR 8,436 crore. The approval saw 96% support from unitholders. The assets, operating under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) model, will boost IRB Infrastructure Developers' operations and maintenance order book by INR 3,100 crore, bringing the total to INR 33,600 crore. IRB InvIT is the public infrastructure trust arm of IRB Infrastructure Developers, which is India's largest private toll roads and highways developer, with an asset base exceeding INR 80,000 crore across 12 states.Read more

The Union Environment Ministry has granted final clearance for forest land transfer to build twin tunnels under Mumbai's Sanjay Gandhi National Park, part of the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project. The 4.7 km tunnels, costing 6,500 crore, will connect Goregaon's Film City to Mulund's Khindipada by 2028. Built 20-160 meters underground, they'll include safety systems, utility ducts, and control rooms. Despite diverting 19.43 hectares of forest, no trees will be affected, and afforestation will be done in Chandrapur district. Extensive environmental studies guided the project. The Bombay High Court has dismissed petitions challenging the conversion of Mumbai's historic Mayor's Bungalow into a memorial for late leader Bal Thackeray. The bench ruled that the decision is a government policy matter and found no legal basis to interfere. Mumbai's Coastal Road Project's north phase, connecting Versova to Bhayandar, has received crucial Stage 1 approval for mangrove forest diversion. State-owned SJVN has signed multiple power purchase agreements to supply green energy from its hydro electric projects in Nepal and Himachal Pradesh.
