Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram remarked that the Prime Minister's visit reflects the government's comprehensive strategy for tribal development, fostering collaboration between central and state governments, along with various stakeholders for sustainable and inclusive growth.
The government's commitment to tribal welfare has been evident in the significant increase in the allocation for Scheduled Tribes (STs). Funds for schemes targeting STs have surged by 5.7 times, from INR 24,600 crore in 2013-14 to INR 1.23 lakh crore in 2024-25.
During his visit, Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for several major development initiatives, including improved housing for tribal families, healthcare projects, educational facilities, and infrastructure developments. He will also participate in the Grih Pravesh ceremony for 11,000 homes built under PM-JANMAN, which is set to enhance housing for tribal families.
Healthcare will receive a boost with the launch of 23 mobile medical units (MMUs) under PM-JANMAN, alongside 30 MMUs under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA), aimed at improving healthcare access in remote tribal areas.
In education, Modi will inaugurate 10 Eklavya Model Residential Schools and 300 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras, designed to foster entrepreneurship and improve livelihoods for tribal communities. Additionally, two museums and two research institutes dedicated to preserving the heritage of tribal freedom fighters will be inaugurated. Infrastructure development will include the laying of foundation stones for new roads and multi-purpose centres under PM-JANMAN, as well as an expansion of housing with the construction of 25,000 new homes and 116,000 houses under DAJGUA.
The launch of PM-JANMAN and the Vikshit Bharat Abhiyan last year was aimed at enhancing the welfare of tribal communities, while the recent launch of the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Utkarsh Gram Abhiyan focuses on developing over 63,000 tribal villages. Additionally, the enrolment of tribal students in schools has seen a significant rise, driven by the expansion of Eklavya Model Residential Schools.
