The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has directed the concessionaire, Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL), to submit a detailed micro plan for completing the 23km Metro Line 3 route by March 2025, ahead of a Central Government meeting on the project's viability gap funding. PMRDA has also sought a plan for the 1.7km integrated flyover, and has issued show-cause notices to the concessionaire for not repairing roads along the route. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had recently called for round-the-clock work on the project to meet the deadline and ensure the roads used for traffic diversion are in good condition.
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has directed the concessionaire, Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL), executing the Metro Line 3 work in the city, to submit a detailed micro plan for completing the 23km route by March 2025. This comes ahead of a Central government meeting this week regarding the viability gap funding for the project.
With the Central government committing to the viability gap funding (an allocated percentage of funds for certain infrastructure projects) for the project, a progress report has to be submitted in the meeting, said officials.
The concessionaire, PITCMRL, was earlier served two show-cause notices for not repairing the roads along the route where the Metro Line 3 work is ongoing. PMRDA commissioner Yogesh Mhase said that only 10-12% of the work is remaining, and PITCMRL has assured that the issues regarding potholes and manholes along the stretch have been addressed.
PMRDA has sought a detailed micro plan from the concessionaire for the 1.7km integrated flyover from SPPU Chowk to E-Square Junction by October 7, as the deadline for its completion was earlier set for the end of November.
In September, PMRDA had issued a show-cause notice to PITCMRL, directing it to immediately carry out road repair work on Ganeshkhind Road, which has been facing issues with road quality and traffic. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had also personally inspected the stretch on September 26.
Pawar called for the police to allow round-the-clock work for the Metro line even on public holidays and other government holidays to speed up the work. He also instructed the department concerned to ensure that the roads through which traffic will be diverted are in good condition, as the ongoing Metro work and the poor quality of roads alongside it have been leading to massive traffic jams.
The PMRDA's proactive measures and the Deputy Chief Minister's involvement highlight the urgency to complete the Metro Line 3 project within the set timeline, particularly as the Central government's commitment to the viability gap funding hinges on the project's progress. The coordinated efforts to address road repairs and maintain traffic flow during the ongoing construction work are crucial for minimizing the inconvenience to the public and ensuring the successful execution of this vital infrastructure project for Pune.
