Western Railway, in collaboration with the Palghar collectorate, has initiated the land acquisition process for the construction of the fifth and sixth railway lines between Borivali and Virar. This project aims to relieve congestion on the fast corridor, which will be reserved exclusively for suburban train operations. To achieve this, the authorities need to acquire 122 properties within Vasai tehsil, a process that is already underway. Palghar district collector, Govind Bodke, confirmed that the acquisition includes spaces from housing societies, commercial areas, and salt pan land, some of which are already owned by the railways. Additionally, larger platforms are planned for Vasai station.

On August 7, the railways issued a public notice to acquire properties located in Divanman, Achole, Navghar, Manikpur, and Umela. These areas consist of both residential housing societies and agricultural lands. The entire project, which lies on the Western Railway corridor, has an estimated cost of INR 2,184.02 crore. All necessary estimates, designs, and drawings have been approved, the drone survey has been completed, and the project's alignment has been finalized. Furthermore, all key plans for major and minor bridges have received approval.

The Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) is responsible for executing the project, and Western Railway has set a target for project commencement by December 2027. Construction contracts for several critical structures have already been awarded, including those for service buildings and railway quarters. Ongoing construction efforts include the relay room at Mira Road, the signal office, the tool room, the RRI building, the Railway Protection Force Barrack at Dahisar, and the station building at Naigaon. Moreover, railway quarters are being built at Vasai Road and Bhayander.

In addition, the tender for relocating existing structures was awarded on October 16 of the previous year, with work currently in progress. Construction and modifications or extensions of Foot Over Bridges and platforms have been divided into two lots, with tenders awarded on February 6 and 7, respectively, and the projects are now underway. Lastly, a tender for constructing major bridges, road overbridges (ROBs), minor bridges, and the associated earthwork for the embankment was issued on June 6.

The Western Railway and Palghar collectorate have launched the acquisition of 122 properties for the fifth and sixth lines between Borivali and Virar, aimed at easing congestion on the suburban train corridor. The INR 2,184.02 crore project, overseen by the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC), is scheduled to commence by December 2027. Key components, including major and minor bridges, platforms, and service buildings, are under construction, with tenders awarded and progress ongoing.
