Puducherry's Industries Minister, A. Namassivayam, announced in the territorial Assembly that a new industrial policy is set to be introduced soon. This policy aims to boost industrial growth in the union territory and create job opportunities for the local youth. The announcement comes in response to queries from legislators about the government's plans to attract more businesses to the region.

During the session, Minister Namassivayam highlighted that many entrepreneurs interested in starting businesses in Puducherry are requesting various concessions related to Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Income Tax. The government is considering these requests to make the region more attractive for investment. He stated that their goal is to encourage industries to establish themselves in Puducherry, which in turn will create jobs for their educated youth.

Since the current government took office in 2021, Puducherry has seen the establishment of 189 new industries, providing employment to nearly 9,700 individuals. This growth reflects a positive trend in the region's industrial landscape. To further enhance this development, the government is also planning to set up an Information Technology (IT) park, which could attract tech companies and provide additional job opportunities.

In a related discussion, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy addressed concerns regarding the revenue generated by the Excise department, which has become a significant source of income for the government. The department currently generates approximately INR 1,488 crore annually, largely due to the increase in the number of liquor outlets in response to rising population and tourism. The Chief Minister assured that licenses for these outlets are being issued in compliance with Excise regulations.

Additionally, the Chief Minister responded to concerns raised by legislators about the availability of ambulances for patients in critical conditions. He announced that the government plans to outsource ambulance services to ensure timely medical assistance for those in need. This decision aims to improve the healthcare response in the territory, addressing a vital concern for residents.

As Puducherry moves forward with these initiatives, the focus remains on creating a robust industrial environment that can provide sustainable employment opportunities for its youth while addressing other pressing community needs. The upcoming industrial policy and infrastructure developments are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of Puducherry's economy.
