Navanagar, situated in the heart of the Hubballi-Dharwad twin cities, is a densely populated area that serves the surrounding villages with essential services such as healthcare, education, and shopping. The Hubballi-Dharwad Bus Rapid Transit System (HD-BRTS) bus station enhances connectivity in the region. To further improve the area's infrastructure and amenities, the HD-BRTS has initiated several development projects.

In line with the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) approach, which combines land use and transport planning, the HD-BRTS aims to create well-planned and sustainable urban areas around the Navanagar BRTS bus stop. TOD focuses on making urban spaces walkable, liveable, and mixed-use, with accessible green and public spaces.

The HD-BRTS has announced plans to execute a major development project on a 7,250 square metre plot owned by the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation. This INR 3 crore project includes four main features- a food court, a transit plaza, a children's park, and a traffic park. The food court will have 12 stalls and a nearby toilet. The transit plaza will offer seating and a garden. The children's park will be equipped with toys and surrounded by a safety fence. Other facilities will include a children's toilet, a security guard room, an auditorium, and a traffic park designed to teach kids about traffic rules using models like traffic signals, roads, signage, and pedestrian crossings.

R. Gudaraddi, the general manager of HD-BRTS, emphasised that the TOD approach combines land use and transport planning to create well-designed, sustainable urban spaces. He highlighted that these areas would be walkable and feature a mix of uses, ensuring easy access to green and public spaces while optimising transit facilities. Basavaraj Jamboti, a resident of Navanagar, expressed his support for the BRTS's decision to enhance the area. He urged that the project be executed with high quality to benefit local residents.

The HD-BRTS's INR 3 crore development project in Navanagar, Hubballi-Dharwad, reflects a commitment to creating sustainable, walkable, and well-connected urban spaces through the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) approach. The integrated facilities, including a food court, transit plaza, children's park, and traffic park, aim to enhance the area's infrastructure and quality of life for the local community.
