Following incidents where plaster chunks fell from balconies in Paras Dews and Signature Global Solera residential societies, the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) in Gurugram issued notices to 38 builders. These notices require the developers to conduct comprehensive surveys of their group housing societies and address all maintenance issues within seven days.
The incidents on Thursday caused significant concern among residents, prompting immediate appeals to local authorities, including the district administration and the DTCP. The falling plaster incidents in Sector 106's Paras Dews and Sector 107's Signature Global Solera underscored the urgency of the situation.
Manish Yadav, the district town planner (enforcement), issued the notice emphasising the need to resolve critical maintenance issues such as water supply, sewage systems, stormwater management, and prevention of road water logging due to rain. The notice mandates builders to submit an action taken report on any deficiencies or observations noted during the surveys within a week.
A DTCP official highlighted the builders' indifferent attitude toward addressing safety concerns and multiple complaints raised by residents. The urgency of the situation was further underscored by the Thursday incidents, which could have led to severe injuries. SS Hooda, a resident of Paras Dews, noted the imminent danger posed by the falling plaster.
Residents in Solera reported that plaster fell from at least four units on Thursday, with another chunk falling from the eighth floor in tower A2 on Friday, injuring one person. In a video posted on X, user Vikas Dabas recounted his experience of climbing stairs to the eighth floor when a plaster chunk fell on him, causing injury. The video showed exposed steel, highlighting the potential for serious accidents.
Developers named in the notices include CHD Developers, NBCC Limited, Paras Buildtech, Raheja Developers, Satya Developers, Vatika, Ansal Housing, Eros Group, ATS Infrastructure, SS Builder, BPTP Limited, Vipul Limited, Bestech, M3M Limited, Spaze Towers, Central Park, Tulip Infratech, Signature Global, Mapsko, and others, primarily from new sectors.
A spokesperson for Signature Global Solera acknowledged the recent incident, attributing it to the rainy season. They noted that the project was delivered, and possession handed over in 2018, and transferred to the RWA one and a half months ago. A structural audit has been completed, and necessary repair work will be finalised within the next few days.
