The Dharavi Redevelopment Project Pvt Ltd (DRPPL), a government body partnered with Adani Realty as the lead developer, has requested 334 tenements to relocate residents. However, securing temporary housing adds to the existing challenges of land acquisition.

The project initially sought 1,255 acres from various government agencies. So far, only the railways have handed over 27.5 acres, with the remaining land acquisition from other agencies still ongoing. This delay in securing the total land area could further impact the project timeline.

DRPPL has approached government agencies like the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SPPL) and the Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority (MHADA) for existing buildings in Dharavi that could be used as temporary housing.

However, a disagreement has arisen between DRPPL and MHADA. While MHADA is willing to provide 5 buildings in Sector 5 with a total construction cost of Rs 641 crore, they are seeking full payment including Rs 183 crore in interest. DRPPL agrees to pay the construction cost but contests the interest amount. This dispute is now with the state government for resolution.
