The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) demolished a structure in Belapur's Sector 36 on June 25, 2024. The action, carried out under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, targeted a house (House No. 996) in Karave village.

The NMMC's Encroachment Department, led by Deputy Commissioner Rahul Gethe, had previously issued a notice to the owner. This notice, issued under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, cited the construction as unauthorised and requested its removal. However, the owner continued construction despite the notice.

Taking a firm stance, the Belapur A Division office, headed by Divisional Officer Shashikant Tandel, initiated the demolition drive. A team of six personnel, including Junior Engineer Mayuresh Pawar and Swapnil Taramale, oversaw the operation. To demolish the structure, the team utilised the support of 12 labourers equipped with three hammers and two gas cutters. The Navi Mumbai Police Department was present to ensure the operation's smooth execution.

This demolition by the NMMC sends a clear message: unauthorised constructions will not be tolerated. It emphasises the importance of adhering to building regulations and obtaining necessary permits before any construction activity within Navi Mumbai. The action serves as a reminder for residents to follow proper procedures to ensure planned urban development in the city.
