Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is hosting a special lecture to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, a visionary ruler known for his significant contributions to social, cultural, and educational development in Maharashtra.

The lecture, titled "Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj's Vision of Educational Ideas," will be delivered by Mr. Abhijit Kamble, a renowned editor and lecturer with over 20 years of experience across print, television, and digital media. He currently serves as the Editor of BBC Marathi. The event will be held on Saturday, June 22nd, 2024, at 6:30 pm at the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Auditorium in Sector 15, Airoli.

Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj is recognised for his firm belief that education is the cornerstone of human progress. During his reign, he implemented groundbreaking reforms, making primary education compulsory and free within his territory. He also actively championed women's education, a progressive stance for his time.

The lecture is part of the NMMC's ongoing "Vicharvedh" series, which hosts talks by distinguished speakers at the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Auditorium, aptly known as "Gyan Smarak" (Monument of Knowledge) in honour of Dr. Ambedkar's philosophy of "Gyan Hi Shakti" (Knowledge is Power). These lectures have consistently garnered enthusiastic participation from Navi Mumbai citizens with over 200 attendees at each event on average.
