Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, is witnessing significant developments aimed at improving the quality of life for its residents. The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) is spearheading two major projects that are nearing completion: a high-end housing complex and an urban forest.
For residents of Nilamadhab Basti in Chandrasekharpur, a long-awaited dream has finally become a reality. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik recently inaugurated the Nilamadhab Niwas project, an initiative under the "Housing for All" policy. This project addresses the need for affordable housing by providing 1,200 well-equipped dwelling units. Out of these, 960 units have already been handed over to the BDA, and the first 455 lucky beneficiaries have received their keys.
These units, each with a carpet area of 250 square feet, offer a comfortable living space with a hall, bedroom, toilet, and kitchenette. Significantly, each beneficiary will only need to pay INR 1.5 lakh for their new home, making this project a true testament to inclusive development. Additionally, the project boasts convenient access to essential amenities like educational institutions, healthcare services, and commercial establishments, ensuring a holistic improvement in the residents' quality of life.
On the outskirts of the city, a different kind of housing project is taking shape. Ekamra Residency at Subuddhipur is meant to become BDA's largest housing complex to date, offering a staggering 704 modern dwelling units. This ambitious project caters to middle and high-income groups, featuring a 14-story structure built with state-of-the-art technology. Residents can look forward to a range of amenities that elevate their living experience, including a gym, clubhouse, and even a rooftop swimming pool.
However, the BDA hasn't forgotten the need for inclusivity. Recognising the importance of affordable housing options, they are planning to develop an additional 300 units adjacent to Ekamra Residency, specifically targeted toward the lower-income population. This two-pronged approach ensures that Bhubaneswar's housing development caters to a diverse range of needs.
Adding another dimension to Bhubaneswar's development is the creation of Ananda Bana, the city's biggest urban forest. Across a massive 90 acres, this green haven will provide a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Divided into two parts and connected by a convenient footbridge, Ananda Bana offers ample space for residents to indulge in leisure activities like cycling, walking, yoga, or simply relaxing amidst nature.
