Godrej Construction unveils 'The Cocoon': A 3D-printed architectural marvel redefining office spaces

Synopsis

Godrej Construction, a flagship of the Godrej Group, has achieved a milestone with the completion of 'The Cocoon,' a 500 sq. ft. office at its Greenfield campus in Khalapur. Utilizing 3D Construction Printing (3DCP) Technology and prefabricated modules, the office showcases innovative design with a curvilinear elliptical structure. The absence of columns maximizes usable space, and the sustainable approach incorporates up to 20% Recycled Concrete Aggregates (RCA), sourced from Godrej & Boyce's recycling facility. Notably, the entire project, including civil work, electrical tasks, plumbing, and landscaping, was completed in a swift 40 hours. Godrej Construction, a division of Godrej & Boyce and a flagship of the Godrej Group, has successfully built a 500 sq. ft. office at its Greenfield campus in Khalapur. Aptly named 'The Cocoon' due to its curved design, the cutting-edge structure showcases the prowess of 3D Construction Printing (3DCP) Technology, utilizing prefabricated modules.

Anup Mathew, Senior Vice President and Business Head at Godrej Construction, expressed the significance of The Cocoon as a testament to their commitment to pushing boundaries, not only in architectural design but also in redefining construction timelines.

What sets The Cocoon apart is not just its swift construction but its unique design and construction approach. The office boasts an unconventional curvilinear elliptical design, showcasing the adaptability of 3DCP technology. The absence of columns maximizes usable office space and a pre-built restroom unit adds to the convenience of the layout.

The scope of the project was extensive, covering everything from setting up 3D printed modules to civil work, waterproofing, flooring, external and internal painting, electrical tasks, lighting, AC installation, plumbing, drainage, sanitation fixtures, office furniture and landscaping – completing it all in a speedy 40 hours.

One notable aspect of this construction marvel is its sustainable approach. The Cocoon was built using a concrete mix design incorporating up to 20% Recycled Concrete Aggregates (RCA). These aggregates were sourced from concrete debris recycled at the Godrej & Boyce Recycled Concrete manufacturing facility in Vikhroli, Mumbai. This initiative reflects the company's ongoing leadership in adopting eco-friendly and inventive construction methods.

Godrej Construction's The Cocoon stands not just as a physical structure but as a symbol of innovation, efficiency and a commitment to sustainable practices in the ever-evolving realm of construction.
