Digital Connexion, formerly known as BAM Digital Realty, recently concluded a three-way joint venture featuring prominent entities—Brookfield Infrastructure, Reliance Industries, and Digital Realty. This strategic partnership was unveiled on July 24, 2023. It establishes an equal one-third (33.33%) ownership for each party in the joint venture. With this development, the entity now operates under the new name Digital Connexion: A Brookfield, Jio, and Digital Realty Company.

This joint venture underscores the unique capabilities each partner brings—Brookfield Infrastructure's profound industry insights into global and Indian infrastructure, Jio's expansive digital ecosystem, robust enterprise relationships, and Digital Realty's leading global data centre platform proficiency in cloud- and carrier-neutral data centres. The collaboration is actively advancing the creation of strategically positioned data centres in Chennai and Mumbai.

The flagship greenfield data centre, MAA10, located in Chennai, is slated to launch in January 2024, boasting 20 megawatts (MW) of IT load capacity on a potential 100 MW campus. Simultaneously, the recent acquisition of 2.15 acres of land in Mumbai sets the stage for expanding the joint venture's footprint with a planned 40 MW data centre. These data centres are strategically situated in key locations and are not only seamlessly connected to critical terrestrial infrastructure but also linked to undersea cables. This positions them as ideal connectivity hubs for Indian enterprises and gateways for multinational corporations seeking to tap into the burgeoning Indian market.

Strategically positioned to meet the evolving data centre and compute capacity requirements spurred by these trends, the joint venture is well-equipped to serve the needs of both global and local enterprises, as well as startups. It offers comprehensive solutions tailored to cloud and colocation requirements, supporting organisations in their transition to the cloud and off-premises locations.

The joint venture plays a pivotal role within Platform Digital, Digital Realty's globally recognized open data centre platform. This empowers Indian customers to rapidly scale their digital transformation initiatives by deploying critical infrastructure with a leading global data centre provider, thereby becoming an integral part of a growing connected data community. As part of this global platform, spanning 300+ data centres across six continents, Digital Connexion ensures that its customers in India experience world-class and seamless connectivity on par with Platform Digital’s clients worldwide.

Increased access to digital services, the ongoing rollout of 5G, and the adoption of data-intensive technologies such as IoT and AI drive a surge in demand for data centres. Given the anticipated multi-fold increase in India's data centre capacity over the next few years, particularly with the nation already ranking among the largest consumers of mobile data globally, the joint venture is poised to address this escalating demand.
