Zaha Hadid Architects has unveiled plans for a 330-meter-tall skyscraper in Saudi Arabia’s Neom development, set within the Trojena ski resort. The tower, named the Discovery Tower, will offer retail, dining, exhibitions, and observation decks. It’s set to become a symbol for Trojena, a region offering year-round skiing and adventure sports. Alongside it, an open-air museum will grace the mountain peaks. In the same Discovery Cluster, a futuristic lookout promises to showcase the mountain’s details through innovative technologies. Additionally, the Neom project includes the Cosmic Gate, a stargazing camp. This visionary project comprises four regions, each with unique characteristics, redefining urban living and tourism.
Zaha Hadid Architects has presented plans for an impressive 330-meter-tall tower in the Trojena ski resort, part of Saudi Arabia’s Neom development. The design was initially showcased at the Cityscape Conference in Riyadh during an exhibition focused on the Neom project. The upcoming skyscraper, resembling crystal-like formations, will be positioned on a mountainside overlooking an artificial lake, serving as an essential component of the Trojena region, reportedly master-planned by LAVA architects.
Additionally, Zaha Hadid Architects has revealed their design for a lookout pavilion adjacent to the skyscraper within Trojena. Neom has also released new renders of the skyscraper, highlighting its crystalline appearance, formed by numerous columns converging at the peak.
Although specific details regarding its functions have not been officially disclosed, it is expected that the tower will accommodate retail stores, dining establishments, exhibition spaces, and observation decks at different heights. Additionally, there are plans for a cable car connection to the lakeside development.
The skyscraper is intended to serve as an iconic symbol for Trojena, one of the four development regions within Neom. Trojena, located approximately 50 kilometers from the Gulf of Aqaba in the Saudi Arabian mountains, is envisioned as a tourist destination offering a wide range of experiences. This includes six clusters from the master plan, featuring year-round outdoor skiing and adventure sports with 36 kilometres of ski slopes. The development will also encompass various leisure activities, music concerts, a cutting-edge observatory, and an artificial freshwater lake.
The tower designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, known as the Discovery Tower, will be situated in the Discovery Cluster of Trojena. According to Neom, it is set to serve as a dynamic platform for innovative and technology-infused artistic content and experiences. Additionally, an open-air museum will be located nearby, nestled between the two mountain peaks.
The ambitious and widely-discussed Neom project was initially announced two years ago and encompasses four distinct regions: the Line, a compact city-like structure with a width of only 200 meters but extending over 170 kilometers in length; Oxagon, a reimagined manufacturing city; Trojena, envisioned as a mountain tourism destination; and Sindalah, an island getaway in the Red Sea.
