Following two building collapses in Dombivli, the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has established a Specialized Survey Team. Tasked with identifying potentially hazardous structures, the team aims to prevent further incidents. One of the recent collapses involved a building not previously marked as dangerous, highlighting the need for this initiative. The team has been formed in all 10 KDMC wards and it comprises experts from various departments. They will conduct thorough assessments and report daily findings, ensuring the safety of Dombivli residents.
In light of recent building collapses in Dombivli, the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has swiftly responded by forming a Specialized Survey Team to prevent further tragedies. This team is tasked with the critical responsibility of identifying and assessing potentially dangerous structures within the municipal limits.
The urgency of this initiative was underscored by two separate incidents in Dombivli. In one unfortunate event, a building's collapse led to the tragic loss of two lives, with another individual sustaining injuries. In a subsequent incident, the Laxmi Niwas building also crumbled. However, due to the alertness of an observant resident who spotted a structural crack and raised the alarm, many inhabitants were safely evacuated.
A concerning detail emerged during the post-collapse investigations: Laxmi Niwas was not previously categorized as a hazardous structure. This alarming oversight propelled the KDMC into action, prompting the formation of the new survey team to assess all structures again.
This specialized team will be constituted in all 10 KDMC wards and they will report to the Additional Municipal Commissioner. Each team will include a Sub-Engineer from the Construction Department, a Surveyor from the Town Planning Department, a Section Clerk from the Property Department, and a Station/Sub-station Officer from the Fire Department. Their collective expertise will ensure a thorough and accurate assessment of building safety across the municipality.
In addition to the survey, the KDMC has directed ward officers to implement necessary safety measures for any newly identified hazardous structures, ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
The formation of the Specialized Survey Team by KDMC underscores the corporation's commitment to safeguarding its residents. The directive to take necessary action based on the survey makes it prudent. Through proactive measures and thorough assessments, the KDMC aims to mitigate potential risks and ensure a safer living environment for all.
